A LLANDEILO heart charity has thanked a fundraiser who helped raise over £2,000 for its cause, through the power of song.

Ann Davies, a supporter of British Heart Foundation (BHF) Cymru, wanted to thank the charity for its work in fighting heart disease, Wales' biggest killer.

Ann, from Llanarthne, organised a concert in memory of her mother, with performances from the Three Tenors, Llanarthne Urdd Children's choir, Côr Lleisiau'r Llan, and Merched Berrach, plus a solo performance from Ann herself.

Ann said: It was a tremendously successful evening, and I was glad to be able to contribute to the work of BHF Cymru, in memory of my mother who passed away from heart disease some years ago.

"It was a pleasure to organise and thank you to the Three Tenors, Llanarthne Urdd choir, Côr Lleisiau'r Llan and Merched Berrach for all your support and help. It was a wonderful evening."

Overwhelmed by the local support, chair of Llandeilo's BHF Cymru fundraising branch, Catherine Horne, said: “Thanks to Ann this fundraising concert was a great success. It was fantastic to see the hall full to the brim with people enjoying the performance, and contributing to support the BHF’s pioneering research to help end the devastation that heart disease brings."

The concert raised a total of £2,031.99 for the heart charity.

Jayne Lewis, fundraising volunteer manager for mid and west Wales, added: “We are grateful to Ann for her energy and enthusiasm to pull this concert together. The money raised will go towards our Mending Broken Hearts Appeal, which is the largest fundraising appeal ever launched in BHF Cymru’s history.

"The goal is simple: to fund the research that could begin to ‘mend broken hearts’ in as little as 10 years and save and improve the lives of millions within decades. With someone in the UK having a heart attack every six minutes you just don’t know when your family might be affected.”
