THERE was love in the air on Monday as sweethearts across the country celebrated St Dwynwen’s Day – the Welsh saint of lovers.

At Parc Wern care home in Ammanford, residents and their partners marked the day in style with cakes, karaoke and kisses.

Alison Nicholls, activities co-ordinator at Parc Wern, was delighted with the day and the joy it brought to residents.

“St Dwynwen’s Day is all about love and togetherness and we thought it would be a wonderful opportunity for our residents to spend time with their partners and simply enjoy each other’s company.

“It is wonderful to see the loving bond between these couples after so many years.

“We really wanted to make the residents feel special on what is a special day.

“It is so important for our residents to remain active and we look to arrange as many activities as we can to remind them of the joys and comforts of home.

“St Dwynwen’s Day is so romantic.”

One couple, Audrey and Alan, have been married 57 years and were only too happy to make the most of the opportunity for a smooch.

Meanwhile, Joe and Jean, who have clocked up 54 years together, remain as close now as when they were teens.

“It has been a wonderful marriage,” said Jean, “and celebrating St Dwynwen’s Day has been fabulous.”
