CHRISTMAS is coming to Ammanford tomorrow with late night shopping and loads of festive fun.

After the disappointment of having to cancel the traditional lights switch on and Guinness Book of Records snowman event, traders and town centre businesses are getting together with Ammanford Enterprise Partnership, Ammanford Town Council and Ammanford Rotary to put on a festive extravaganza.

For all those children who have snowmen costumes there will be a Best Dressed Snowman Competition.

Starting at 3.30pm and running until 7.30pm, a range of festive activities will fill Quay Street with music fun and laughter, culminating in a festive fireworks display.

A 12ft high Snow Globe will be located on Quay Street with photo opportunities for all the family especially well dressed Snowmen.

A children’s funfair and children’s entertainer Crazy Clayton will all be bringing Quay Street a truly festive atmosphere with carol singing around the Christmas tree.

In the Pensioners Hall a craft market, face painting and a Santa’s Grotto will be open from 3.30pm until 7pm.

Santa will leave his Grotto at 7.15pm with children prompted to look for fireworks going off, confirming that Santa is on his way to Lapland to get all the children’s Christmas presents ready.

Children are also invited to participate in the Christmas Tree Decoration Competition which will help decorate the Christmas tree at the bottom of Quay Street by bringing home made Christmas decorations to be added to the tree.

Executive board member for regeneration and leisure Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “Ammanford can look forward to an exciting start to Christmas. I would encourage children to take part in the best dressed snowman competition and hope everyone will make the most of all the fun events organised for Thursday.”
