A CARMARTHENSHIRE charity providing support for people in the county with mental health issues has been given a massive boost thanks to the Ammanford branch of a national bank.

Advocacy charity Eiriol received a cheque for £5,000 from Santander’s Community Plus fund after applying through the Quay Street branch.

“We are extremely grateful to have received this grant from Santander,” said Eiriol manager Lynn Howells.

“As a charity which survives on grants from the local authority and the Welsh Government times are difficult at the moment.

“We will be spending this money running a series of workshops for people to understand the benefits of advocacy and helping them learn more about their rights.”

Santander branch manager Emma Ward, who was presented with the cheque, said: “I am delighted that a Carmarthenshire charity has been given the money.

“It is important that local organisations understand they can benefit from the Community Plus fund and I would encourage them to come along and apply – they don’t even have to have an account with Santander.”

Eiriol, which offers independent support, advice and advocacy services to adults with mental health issues, will be holding a fundraising Christmas concert in Tabernacle Chapel, Carmarthen, on December 4.
