THE Capriol Orchestra's next concert is on Saturday 10th October at 7.30pm, Holy Trinity Church, Stroud.
Distinguished soloist, Samantha Carrasco will perform Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor Opus 54.
The orchestra will be playing Beethoven's Coriolanus Overture too, with its tensions between minor and major keys reflecting those between war and a mother's pleadings with her son not to invade Rome.
Also on the programme is Mendelssohn's Symphony no. 3 in A minor, often known as his Scottish Symphony, although the inspiration for the work first came to Mendelssohn on his visit to Scotland 13 years before the work was completed; listen out for the 'Scotch snap' rhythm, favoured in Strathspey dances in the second movement.
Tickets are £9/£7 in advance from orchestra members or Stroud Tourist Information, or £10/£8 on the door. Children go free.
