An Ammanford teenager has admitted possessing vile indecent images of children as young as three.

Rhodri Huw Gravell, of Margaret Street, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates Court to plead guilty to seven separate charges of possessing indecent images of children when police raided his home on January 22.

Two of the images were categorised as Category A.

Indecent images are classified on a scale of A to C with Category A being the most serious.

The 19-year-old also had one Category B image and four Category C images.

Ellie Morgan, prosecuting, told the court how officers from Dyfed-Powys Police raided Gravell's home after being alerted to his internet activity by national and international agencies tracking illegal websites trafficking indecent images of children.

"Police confiscated his mobile phone and laptop computer from his bedroom," Ms Morgan told the court.

"These items were analysed by the high-tech unit and found to have a total of seven indecent images of children: two on the phone and five on the laptop.

"There were two Category A, one Category B and two Category C images on the laptop, and two Category C images on the phone."

Gravell initially told officers: "I did it accidentally. I thought they were 17 years old."

In interview, Gravell was told an expert search of his computer would reveal a "footprint" of all websites he had visited and all web searches he had carried out.

He told officers he had not deliberately looked for indecent images of children but may have included the word "teen" in searches.

He said he accessed pornographic websites on a daily basis.

He denied he had deliberately downloaded indecent images of children but accepted that some of the individuals depicted in the pictures "were under 18".

The hearing was adjourned for the completion of probation reports, however District Judge David Parsons warned Gravell that his case may yet be sent to crown court for sentencing.

Gravell will next appear at Llanelli Magistrates Court on October 8.
