THE Family Housing Association is to host an information day for those who want to find out more about the multi-million pound extra-care housing facility at Gwynfryn.

Interest continues to grow in the new build Ty Dyffryn Extra Care facility.

It will provide much sought after apartments for people over 55.

There are a number of jobs being created by the scheme and the details of these and what the facility is all about will be presented at an information day next month.

When it opens early next year the housing scheme will provide 50 apartments, community facilities including a cafe and restaurant, community lounge, craft and therapy rooms.

The scheme is being developed by Family Housing Association (Wales) Ltd in partnership with Carmarthenshire County Council.

Because of the growing interest in the innovative build for over 55’s at Ty Dyffryn, the information day has been planned at the Pensioner’s Hall, Quay Street, Ammanford, on Friday, October 9 between 12 noon and 4pm.

Staff will be available to explain the development and the care and support services and there will be a chance to meet the senior managers responsible for the scheme.

There will be complementary refreshments and an opportunity for people to see how they could become part of the team with details of jobs on offer explained too.

There will also be representatives offering advice and information from the council’s housing department, benefits and domiciliary care team, as well as the support services, Age Cymru, the interior designer and specialised communication systems.

The facilities will have lifts that are fully accessible for wheelchair users and has the necessary charging points for mobility scooters.

County executive board member for social care and health, Councillor Jane Tremlett, said: “We are developing two magnificent schemes with family housing providing 111 extra care apartments across Carmarthenshire costing more than £23-million by January 2016.”

Ty Dyffryn, Ammanford, is opposite Coleg Sir Gar on Station Road. There will be 37 one-bedroom flats plus 13 flats with two bedrooms. All are suitable for couples who want to stay together even though one might have significant health issues.

Tenants will have individual apartments with privacy and security. A range of social activities will be encouraged with a focus on promoting independence.

Jill Pethick, the scheme project manager at Family Housing Association said: “We are working in partnership with the county council to design and develop this exciting new scheme which will provide modern homes and services for the county’s older residents.”
