A GROUP of Welsh learners have celebrated following a win at this year’s Welsh Learners Eisteddfod.

The Ammanford based group who met twice a week at the town's library completed their latest Welsh learners course – Mynediad Dwys Foundation – earlier this year and will now move onto the next level of learning.

On the back of the classes - run by the South West Wales Welsh for Adults Centre based at Swansea University – the group’s tutor Rhian Haf suggested members put themselves to the test at the Learners Eisteddfod.

“The group entered a number of categories including the grwp canu, photography, craft, cookery, poetry and limerick and I was so pleased to see them come away with a trophy,” said Rhian.

One group member, Pauline Hancock, said the Welsh class at Ammanford is fun and relaxed and winning at the Eisteddfod was a massive confidence boost.

“The classes are very enjoyable, I loved my time learning the Welsh language.

"You have to put the work in but learning to speak Welsh has been very rewarding.”

Fellow learner Denys Jenkins said if anyone was considering joining a Welsh class to “just go for it”.

“Everyone is in the same position – in our particular group we encourage each other, we are all in it together,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to start the new class in September – learning Welsh has been one of the best things I’ve done, it has been such a fantastic achievement.”

The Ammanford group of learners’ next class will be Sylfaen dwys and will run in the library on Mondays and Wednesday from 10am to 12pm.

There will also be two classes for beginners, one during the day in the library on Monday and Thursday from 10am to 12pm – Mynediad Dwys and one in Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Rhydaman on Monday evening from 6pm to 9pm, this class is called Mynediad Combi.
