Cross Hands community nurse Joy Parry proved herself a champion more ways than one when she donated £150 of her National Eisteddfod prize to Cancer Research Wales.

Joy collected the Blue Ribband in the Eisteddfod at Meifod where she won the chief recitation award for her chosen piece - a selection from SIWRNE 13, a book by Llandybie author Hazel Charles Evans.

Joy was highly praised for her selection and her performance, which according to the adjudicators, came from the heart.

SIWRNE 13, launched at the Mountain Gate last year, sold its entire 500 print run within a month, raising £5,295 for
