YOUNGSTERS have been celebrating their A-level results with headteachers across Carmarthenshire and Neath Port Talbot commending the pupils’ success.

At Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, among those with outstanding results were Victoria Moulson, 1A* and 3As, Jack Vaughan, Elin Hopkins and Tyler Payne all achieving 1A*, 2As and 1B.

“We are again delighted with the A and AS results,” said headteacher Steve Perks.

“The school’s consistent success over recent years is a tribute to the hard work of our students, the support of parents and of course, to the dedication of our excellent staff at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman.”

Ysgol Bro Dinefwr headteacher Julie Griffiths was equally delighted with her pupils’ grades. Emily Adams was the highest achiever with 3A*s and 1A, Charlie Bleasdale 1A*, 1A and 2Bs and Eleanor Tiddy 2A*s and 2Bs.

Meanwhile Maes y Gwendraeth pupil Lowri Heseltine achieved a staggering four A* grades with Jamie Gravell also among the high achievers gaining 3A*s and 1A.

Headteacher Iwan M Rees said, “This year sees the school celebrating the best results ever in the A-level examinations.

“Once again the whole school community is delighted with the A and AS level results. We congratulate them and wish them every success in the future.

Ysgol Maesydderwen headteacher, Sally Speedy said, "We are delighted with this year's results. Once again I am pleased that all our pupils have secured university places."

Results included Catrin Norton who achieved two A* grades and two A grades, Georgia Evans - two A*s an A and a B grade and Kira Evans - two A*s and two As grades.

Mrs Speedy went on to congratulate the year 12 pupils who also achieved excellent results in their AS exams.

Llandovery College also celebrated another year of A-level success. Stephen Leonard topped the leader board with an outstanding 5 A*s and Gwion Jones achieved 3 A*s.

Llandovery College Headmaster, Guy Ayling, said: “These results show a substantial increase in the number of pupils achieving across the board.

"These results show that hard work and dedication from both pupils and their teachers will pay dividends.”

Figures released by Carmarthenshire county council have revealed the overall county pass rate at A-level is 98.4 per cent compared with the national Welsh average of 97.3 per cent.

In the combined top grades of A* and A, Carmarthenshire students achieved a pass rate of 21.9 per cent just slightly lower than the Welsh average of 23.1 per cent.

With a performance at 78.9 per cent at A* to C Carmarthenshire students comfortably surpassed the Welsh average of 74.3 per cent.

In addition, the overall Carmarthenshire pass rate at AS level of 91.7 per cent compares well with the Welsh average of 86.8 per cent.

“Standards gained in this year’s examinations are excellent. As a council, we wish to acknowledge the dedication and support provided by their families and schools for whom today will be a very proud day.

“The continued high standards achieved this year reflect the commitment of the authority through its schools, colleges and support services to all of our young people in providing them with every opportunity to achieve their full potential. We wish them all well for the future.”
