Young people in the Amman Valley are being urged to ensure they are able to claim a third off bus travel in Wales from September 1.

Tycroes Councillor Calum Higgins is calling on 16-18 year olds in Amman Valley area to register for a new Welsh Government scheme, The Welsh Young Persons Discounted Travel scheme, which it is hoped will help reduce the cost of accessing training, education and work for youngsters, as well as helping pay for all other journeys.

Bus users can register for the scheme online at gov.wales/mytravelpass (English) or llyw.cymru/fyngherdynteithio (Welsh).

Registering will enable them to receive discounted fares on all local buses and TrawsCymru journeys throughout the country.

Councillor Higgins said: “This scheme will make it substantially cheaper for young people to travel on public transport.

“It is vital that as many people sign up as possible and take advantage.

"Young people in the area have to pay significant sums of money to travel to Swansea or towns nearby if they are looking for work or taking further education courses.

“To make sure everyone who is eligible benefits from this discount, it is important that word gets around about its availability.

“If you know a young person who can register please pass this information on.”
