A DARE devil dad from the Towy Valley has faced his fears and jumped 10,000 feet to support a cause dear to his heart.

Emyr Williams, from Llanddeusant, has just completed the terrifying tandem skydive in aid of the MS Trust- to raise cash and awareness of the vital work the charity does.

In a leap-of faith, Emyr, plunged 120 mph free-fall before deploying his parachute during the jump on June 27 at Dunkeswell Airfield and in doing so, helped raised more than £6,000 for the MS Trust.

The brave act was 45-year-old Emyr’s way of ‘giving something back’ to the charity he says played a vital role in supporting him and his family following wife Gemma’s diagnosis with the disease.

Says Emyr, who was supported at the jump by Gemma and the couple’s two sons Iestyn and Morgan, said: “We wanted to give something back so as a family we set ourselves a target to raise £1000 for the MS Trust,” says Emyr.

“The MS Trust have been a great source of support for us and our two boys, Iestyn and Morgan, in learning to live life with MS.

“As the illness progresses and new treatments become available we are continually facing new challenges and choices.

“The MS Trust provide a wealth of useful information and their kids’ guides for children whose parents have MS were very helpful when explaining to our boys.”

MS is a lifelong condition affecting the nervous system. More than 100,000 people live with MS in the UK, and 100 more are diagnosed every week. The MS Trust works to make a difference today for people living with MS by providing practical, reliable information and training MS specialist health professionals.

During the sky-dive Emyr was joined by a group of Trust supporters and between them they raised the £6,000.

A spokesman for the Trust said “Emyr has raised a fantastic amount for the MS Trust.

“The MS Trust would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in the jump, the money you raised will make a difference to those living with MS today.”
