A 53-year-old Upper Brynaman woman has told magistrates she had “a couple of double brandies” after driving home following an altercation with her former partner’s new love.

Caroline Emma Jones, of 3 Coronation Road, denied she had driven under the influence of alcohol following the row on April 19.

Llanelli magistrates were told how police carried out tests at Jones’ home and found she had 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard Jones told the court how police had been contacted by Terri Curtis who had confronted Jones after spotting her “crouching down” beside a car parked out Ms Curtis Bryn Avenue address.

The car belonged to Ms Curtis’ partner, who was previously in a relationship with Jones.

“Ms Curtis was concerned and went to speak to Jones,” said Mr Pritchard Jones.

She discovered that Jones had written an extremely offensive four-letter word twice down the side of the car.

A physical altercation broke out between the two women, Mr Pritchard Jones said, and Jones got into her own car and drove away.

Ms Curtis then telephoned police in the belief that Jones had been drinking.

“Police went to her house and she was clearly under the influence,” said Mr Pritchard Jones.

“She admitted she had driven back from Ms Curtis’ home.”

However, Jones denied she had been drinking before the incident.

“She said she had had a couple of double brandies since she had got back home,” Mr Pritchard Jones told the court.

Defence solicitor John Griffiths told magistrates the case was one of “post-driving consumption”.

“She drank a substantial quantity of brandy after she got back to the house,” he said.

Magistrates adjourned the case for trial on August 14.
