A LLANDYBIE family are to pay tribute to their son, who died this year, with a pool tournament at the Golden Grove Inn.

James Lilburn died in January at the age of 25.Born with Down’s syndrome, James was very popular in Ammanford particularly through his work at iSmooth café on College Street and Steps Cross Hands.

“James was a happy-go-lucky lad who was known by everyone,” said his father Malcolm Lilburn.

“James loved pool and loved the staff at the Golden Grove Inn.”

“We wanted to do something that would keep his memory alive,” said Malcolm, who works as regional health, safety and welfare manager for the Welsh Ambulance Service.

The Lilburn family – Malcolm, his wife Julie, and three other children: Alex, Cerith and Rebecca – would like to thank the public for their support since James’ death.

“Everyone has chipped in and helped out – the lovely guys at Ammanford Ambulance Station have raised money which will be paying for the trophies,” said Malcolm.

James’ twin brother Alex has also donated a prize.

As a member of the Parachute Regiment in Wiltshire, he has donated a tandem sky dive at his base.

The event takes place on Saturday, June 6 at 2pm.

Proceeds will go to the British Heart Foundation.

“Everyone will be welcome whether they play pool or not,” said Malcolm.

“We hope to make this an annual event to keep the memory of James alive.”
