IT seems residents of Llandyfan and Trap may have reached a compromise with water company Brecon Carreg following row which erupted over the company's new operational times.

Previously, residents had been monitoring and documenting lorry departure and arrival times to the site, and claimed the company was breaching its planning order.

This instigated a meeting with Llandeilo and Dyffryn Cennen Town Councillor, David Saunders, and county councillor, Edward Thomas, with executives from the firm to discuss residents' concerns.

“During the meeting the company acknowledged that trucks were entering the site outside of their permitted times – which is a significant turning point,” said Cllr Edwards.

“The company has assured us that they have now set in motion a number of changes with their transport contractors, Owen’s Haulage, which will deter any further breach of the planning order in the future.”

Recently Brecon Carreg was granted permission to allow heavy goods vehicles to enter and exit the site from 7.30am until 7.30pm throughout the year.

However, residents have been monitoring the situation and claim to have witnessed trucks arriving as early as 6.06am.

“Following the meeting Mr Saunders and I inspected the site and the company has clearly made some positive changes to its operation,” added Cllr Edwards.

“There is wider entrance and a larger storage area for the trailers and the company has secured the use of a warehouse for extra space in Llangennech."

Brecon Carreg’s Commercial Director, David Stockley and his colleagues have since expressed their desire to work with the community and have offered an open day where residents can meet the team and voice any concern they may have.

"We had an extremely positive meeting with councillors on Wednesday, May 20, and shared the measures that we have confirmed with our hauliers to ensure we work within the latest restrictions," said a spokesman from Brecon Carreg.

"We are continuing to work with councillors further on how we can engage with the local community on an ongoing basis.”
