Disgraced former Carmarthenshire coroner John Owen has been told he faces being struck off the register of solicitors.

Owen, aged 79, is currently serving a five-year jail term after he admitted stealing £1million from a dead client's estate.

In November 2014, the Llandeilo-based solicitor was jailed after admitting 17 counts of theft and false accounting after being made executor of farmer John Williams’ will

The Solicitors Regulation Authority has now said he will face a professional tribunal on May 27.

The Authority said he would face unproven allegations that he made "improper and unauthorised withdrawals from client account" and failed to adhere to the terms of a will of which he was an executor.

Owen is also due to face a further allegation in relation to his conviction.

If the allegations are found proved, the panel could remove Owen from the professional register.

The Authority closed down Owen's practice in September 2011.
