A man has been fined by Carmarthenshire County Council for dropping litter after he was spotted throwing an empty drinks can from a car window in Heol Brown, Tycroes.

A member of the public witnessed the incident and reported the offender to the council’s environmental enforcement unit.

Council staff were able to identify the offender and he has been issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75 for the offence.

Failure to pay could result in prosecution in the magistrates court and a fine of up to £2,500.

The council is actively encouraging residents to help catch offenders. Offences can be reported online, by email or by telephone.

Director of Environment Christina Harrhy said: “I would like to thank the member of the public for providing the information that has helped us to catch the offender.

“Throwing litter from a vehicle is a criminal offence and we are urging people to report offenders so that we can take action.

“It is important that residents give us as much information as possible such as the date and time, the location of the offence and the vehicle registration number.

“By working together we can clean up Carmarthenshire.”
