More than 500 responses have been received to date on a survey for controlling dogs in Carmarthenshire’s public places.

Carmarthenshire County Council is consulting on Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) which can be used to tackle the problem of irresponsible dog ownership.

Some replace existing powers while others are new. For example, the orders can be used to exclude dogs from certain areas or require dogs to be on leads under direction.

Residents are being reminded that there is still time to tell us what they think by completing our short survey.

Director of Environment Christina Harrhy said: “I would urge people to please fill in the survey, your views are important to help us reach a decision that is right for Carmarthenshire.”

As well as seeking public opinion, the council is consulting with partner organisations and interested parties such as the Police and Crime Commissioner, town and community councils, AMs and MPs, The Kennel Club, The Dogs Trust, Local Access Forum, Countryside Alliance, Natural Resources Wales and the Crown Estate.

Please complete the online survey at http://ilocal.carmarthenshire.gov.uk/consultations/pspo/ by May 5. The surveys are also available to complete in our Customer Service Centres.
