A TEENAGE schoolgirl with ambitions of becoming a world-class performer recently made it through to the grand final of The Voice of South Wales.

Erin Lewis, from Llandeilo, beat off hundreds of other hopefuls when she took to the stage at the Ffrwnes Theatre to belt out her rendition of the Queen classic Somebody To Love, on Thursday, April 7.

“I have been singing for about three years now and I just love it,” said Erin.

“Although I was nervous before I went on stage, but that’s just part of the excitement.”

The budding star was one of 20 singers who were judged by legendary Swansea actress Ruth Madoc, best known for her role as Gladys Pugh in the 1980s BBC television comedy Hi-de-Hi, Stella actress Michelle McTernan, and Tom Jones tribute Dean Jones.

“All the judges were really nice and I had a great time,” added Erin.

“I can’t wait for my next competition.”

The budding songstress is no stranger to the stage last year she won a local contest, Llandeilo’s Got Talent, and more recently she came forth out of 20 finalists in the Swansea Idol contest.

The 13-year-old said: “I had to sing two songs for this event.

“The first song I chose was Somebody To Love by Queen, because it is one of my favorites.

“My second choice was Celine Dion’s ballad – Loved Me Back to Life.

“I wanted to sing two completely different genres to show how versatile I am.

“And it worked because I came forth – which I am really chuffed about.

“Plus I’ve made lots of new friends.”

The singing sensation is now back at school and studying hard. However, any spare time she gets she is usually performing musical theatre.

Previously, Erin has landed herself a role in the musical Sister Act.

“The best thing about entering these competitions is that it has built up her confidence as a performer,” said, Erin’s mum, Julia.

“I couldn’t be more proud of her.

“She’s a little superstar.”

The Ysgol Bro Dinefwr pupil is due to make a guest appearance at the Liberty Stadium as part of girl band The QT’s in the coming months.
