A 22-year-old man has died after an incident involving a digger-type machine at 8.05am on Tuesday, April 21, at Gower Foods, Heol Ty Newydd, Cross Hands.
An employee of Jones Brothers Henllan Ltd. died at the scene despite efforts from paramedics to save him.
Gower View Foods is in the process of building a new factory next door to its current plant - the new site is where the incident took place.
A second man was taken to Llanelli's Prince Philip Hospital as a precautionary measure, said a spekesman from the Welsh Ambulance Service.
The Health and Safety Executive is assisting police with their inquiries.
Gower View Foods director Jon Lewis said: "We are devastated for the builder and for the family. It's a very sad situation.
“Our thoughts are with his family at this time."
An ambulance service spokesman said: "We sent a rapid response car and two emergency ambulances to the scene, where sadly a man was pronounced dead."
An HSE spokeswoman said: "There was a fatality this morning at Gower Foods in Cross Hands. The HSE is aware and we are assisting police with their enquiries at this stage."
