A YOUNG otter found in a back garden has been taken into RSPCA care.

The male otter was found by a member of public yesterday morning, April 14, in their garden at Maes Y Glyn, Lower Brynaman.

RSPCA animal welfare officer Paula Milton said: “A member of the public found the young otter in their back garden where her cats and dogs looked as though they were about to attack it.

“The caller caught it in a coal sack then took it to her neighbour who tipped it into a cat basket. The person then called us.”

The otter has now been taken to RSPCA’s West Hatch Wildlife Centre for rehabilitation.

The RSPCA would like to remind people that before touching any baby wild animal, we always advise monitoring first to check that it is genuinely orphaned or abandoned, as mum is often nearby and waiting for you to leave.

If you are concerned for the welfare of a young wild animal that seems to be alone, please watch from a distance and call the RSPCA’s Cruelty & Advice line on 0300 1234 999.
