Plaid Cymru chose Ffos Las Racecourse in the key battleground seat of Carmarthen East and Dinefwr to launch their campaign ahead of the 2015 general election today.

MP Jonathan Edwards, leader Leanne Wood AM and Plaid grandee Dafydd Wigley, who is spearheading the party’s campaign, laid out a vision ofr the party in a chaing politcal landscape .

All three addressed the growing belief that the winds of change were sweeping through British politics - and said it was for Plaid Cymru to ensure the party played a key role in shaping the nation over the next five years.

“The people of Wales face a defining choice at the election,” said Mr Edwards.

Warning that Wales faced a £1billion cut at the hands of both Labour and the Conservatives, he said: “We reject the ideological policies of Labour and the Tories.

“Labour and the Tories have voted against the interests of Wales.

“Their MPs can never be trusted to stand up for Wales in Westminster. They are part of the machine.

“We represent Wales in Westminster; they [Labour and the Conservatives] represent Westminster in Wales.”

Party leader Leanne Wood, fresh from an appearance on the BBC's Quenstion Time on Thursday night, said the rise of smaller parties was changing the face of British politics forever.

“People’s eyes have been opened,” she said.

“The days of the duopoly are over. The days of false choices are done.

“I call on the people to make Wales matter.

“Wales can trust Plaid Cymru to put Wales first every time.”

Mr Wigley, with four decades of elections to his name, said he believed Plad Cymru was “in the best position now than we have ever been” during the early stages of an election campaign.

“We must ensure that Wales is side by side with Scotland at the top table of political decision-making.”

He urged party workers to strive for the next five weeks in support of party candidates so that they could “work for Wales over the next five years.”
