A LLANDEILO National Trust property has revised its dual parking and entry charges and adopted a single visitor’s fee.

Dinefwr Park, the 800-acre countryside estate, attracts people from across the UK who use its on-site facilities, explore the nature reserve, mansion house and medieval castle.

Previously the conservation charity had adopted a £6 parking charge, conforming to a covenant with Cadw, who joint manage Dinefwr Castle.

The parking charge has now been dropped and replaced with a lower access all areas price of £6.50 per adult and £3.25 per child.

The team, at Dinefwr, have also programmed in added value events for visitors and have a jam packed spring offer this year.

Marketing Officer for National Trust Carmarthenshire, Sophie Thomas, said: “Spring is one of the best times of year to visit Dinefwr Park.

It is the only parkland national nature reserve in Wales home to some of the oldest avenues of Oak Trees, the estate is already bursting to life and it’s only going to get better as the season goes on.

“Some of my spring highlights are seeing our ancient cattle returning to the field in front of Newton House.

“This herd were first recorded at Dinefwr 1000 years ago and link to the princes who once lived on the imposing Dinefwr Castle.

“They are a real living link to our very distant past so seeing the new additions come into the world is a real treat for me and our visitors.

Some of the other spring highlights are the spectacular May Bluebell display, dawn chorus walks and badger watch evenings and not forgetting the popular Easter egg trails.

As a charity the park does not receive government funding and so rely heavily on membership, donations and admission charges to help sustain the parks natural beauty.

“It costs on average around £400,000 just to maintain Dinefwr Park, and that’s without any special projects like upgrading the foot paths or fixing benches,” added Sophie.

“It even costs us 20p each time you use the toilet, talk about spending a penny.

“Just by visiting Dinefwr or any of our other properties, you are helping to conserve some of the most important and special places in the country”.
