AMMANFORD’S Quay Street is once again set to become the centre of a bustling trading town thanks to the introduction of a monthly market.

In its final stages of planning, the scheme Funded by Regeneration and Leisure department, has received a cash injection of more than £15,000 and will see residents and traders benefit from a further 15 stalls.

The initiative is aimed to improve Ammanford’s reputation as a thriving trading centre for old and new businesses.

Backing the enterprise, town councillor Jonathan Davies also hopes to see Ysgol Dyffryn Aman introducing a young entrepreneur scheme, where children will create and run a stall.

“In addition to the entrepreneur proposal we will be offering all charity fundraisers a free stall per month to boost their sponsorship – to apply for a stall all applications should be made to the council.

“We have secured funding for the first year’s set-up charges, this includes securing storage facilities with a permanent fixture in the Co-op car park, purchasing equipment and help towards launch costs.”

After completing the first year of trading, town councillors are confident that the monthly market will be self-sufficient and be a huge benefit to the town.

Carmarthenshire County Council Community Regeneration Officer Jayne Pritchard said: “The Community Bureau has successfully administered the Mynydd y Betws Community Benefit Fund since April 2013.

“The Town Council has secured £15,360 (80 per cent funding) to purchase market stalls.

“Ammanford Town Council still has a window to successfully deliver the scheme and officers are actively supporting the Clerk through each stage of the grant process.”

Plans have also been drawn-up that the monthly market will work in conjunction with the weekly market.
