Mobile phone coverage across is Carmarthenshire is set to receive a major boost after Vodaphone announced plans to strengthen mobile phone services across Wales.

The company predicts the investment will bring 3G and 4G mobile coverage to more than 94 per cent of the country.

The news comes after rival operator Three also announced ambitions plans to improve its network in the county over the next 12 months following consultation with Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP Jonathan Edwards, who has campaigned for improved coverage in rural areas.

Vodafone also announced the roll-out of its ultrafast 4G network in Llanelli.

The company has already installed the ground-breaking technology to provide 3G coverage in Pendine.

The network investment across Wales comes as part of a £1billion infrastructure enhancement scheme across the UK.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart commented: “Connectivity is a key priority for the Welsh Government and the news that Vodafone is investing in Wales with its network and services is very welcome.

“The rollout of Vodafone’s 4G will mean fast internet speeds which will benefit residents, businesses and visitors alike.”

Vodafone’s Jorge Fernandes said: “Our network improvements across Wales will ensure more people and businesses have the opportunity to thrive in today’s digital world, while the launch of 4G will give them the opportunity to access and share data faster than ever before.

“However, this is only the start as we continue to invest in our network and services across the country.”
