A DARING duo from Tumble will be taking off on a charity tandem skydive, in memory of two men who both died from heart attacks at an early age.

Karen Stone and Sarah Davies, both of Troed y Bryn, are set to plunge 12,000 feet on March 29, raising as much money as possible for both the British Heart Foundation and the Bobby and Friends Fund.

A cook in charge at Tumble school, Sarah knows exactly what it means to lose someone special.

Two years ago she lost her husband Alun Davies following a heart attack at work at just 39 years of age.

“It was a big shock so the charity is very close to my heart,” said 38-year-old Sarah.

“I am feeling pretty focused about the skydive – I know what has to be done so I’m just going to get on with it.

“There’s no turning back now.

“Anything that I can do to help the charity and its cause is going to be worth it.”

Karen Stone who owns printing firm C Emb Print in Cross Hands is raising money for the Bobby and Friends Fund.

The local charity was set up in memory of former British Super Featherweight and WBC International Super Featherweight champion Robert Dickie, who died following a heart attack in 2010 at the age of 46.

All money raised from the fund goes to local causes.

“I’ve been putting the big day out of my mind, but as the day draws nearer I’m getting more and more nervous,” said 34-year-old Karen.

“We’ve been told we’ll jump at around 12,000 feet, the parachute will open at around 6,000 feet, travelling at speeds of around 120 mph – that is a scary thought.”

In preparation Karen has been riding roller coasters to get the feeling of adrenaline.

“I normally hate roller coasters, you wouldn’t usually catch me in the queue for one, but I hoped it would help me prepare for the jump – I’d like to think it’s helped,” she added.
