Entry students at Coleg Sir Gâr’s Ammanford campus welcomed the Bishop of St David’s into their classroom.

The Rt Revd John Wyn Evans, who is the 128th Bishop of the Diocese of St David’s, heard about the entry level students from Canon Rees who has forged links with the department over a number of years by providing a venue and service for a Christingle which takes place within Our Lady of The Rosary Church, Ammanford.

Entry level courses are designed to equip students who have additional and complex needs, with life and work skills, promoting independence and offering a range of taster sessions in vocational subject areas to assist with future life choices.

Ffion Gwyther, who is also a cast member in SKY television’s Stella, performed a solo dance for the Bishop and his Clergy to Robbie Williams’ Angels. A group of second year level three childcare students also sang with a guitar accompaniment.

Bishop Wyn gave students an explanation of his role and the significance behind his pastoral staff and church attire as well as the meaning of the engraving on the back of his cross which reads byddwch lawen cadwch y ffydd and translates to rejoice, keep the faith.

Carolyne O’Hara, deputy head of childcare, entry and counselling, said: “The students were very excited to welcome the Bishop and we were especially thrilled that he took the time to visit us.”
