Four members of Plaid Cymru's "Cabinet in waiting" were joined by MP Jonathan Edwards at an open meeting in Tycroes.

The event, held on January 22, saw the Plaid Cymru team - The five strong cabinet team, leader Leanne Wood, Shadow Minister for Health and Well-being Elin Jones, Shadow Minister for Economy and Enterprise Rhun ap Iorwerth and Shadow Minister for Education, Skills and the Welsh language Simon Thomas, take questions from an audience of party members and the public.

The meeting also offered Plaid Cymru the opportunity to outline the party's vision for Wales.

Ms Wood told audience members that opinion polls currently indicated a hung parliament following the UK general election, and that the likes of Cymru Plaid could hold the balance of power.

The shadow ministers also took questions on their plans to improve the health service, and job prospects in Carmarthenshire while strengthening the local economy.

Ms Wood said: “Plaid Cymru believes that politicians should be as accessible as possible and that is why we’re holding a series of open evenings in all parts of Wales in order to meet with people, take their questions and tell them about our plans to build a better Wales.

“Plaid has the interesting, innovative and challenging policy that can improve the future prospects of our nation.

“By recruiting a thousand extra doctors to the health service we can increase capacity and bring down waiting times.

“By supporting our small businesses and investing in apprenticeships and skills training, we can improve the economy and create high-quality, better-paid jobs in Wales.

“And by investing in green industries we can grow the industry, create jobs and capitalise on the natural resources that we have in abundance.”

Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP Jonathan Edwards said: “In May’s general election it is looking increasingly likely that Plaid will hold the balance of power in Westminster.

“We will fight for what is best for the people of Wales – to end austerity, to deliver fair funding for Wales and to protect our public services.

“That the message we told the audience, and it is the message we’re taking to the doorsteps of Carmarthenshire.”
