OWNERS from a Garnant fish and chip shop are waiting anxiously to hear if they have won two national awards.

The popular chippy is one of just four shops in Carmarthenshire selected to participate in two competitions, “Chip Week 2015” and “Best Chippy Chips” award.

Mark Rostant and Natasha Fenwick took over Sole Kitchen last year and the chip shop now has a reputation for having some of the best fish and chips in the area.

Mark said: “Business is booming we have been really busy since we took over the shop in April last year. It is really good that an independent business is doing well.

“At Sole Kitchen we really enjoy engaging with our community. We have some of the best customers and have built a personal relationship with them in such a short time.

“They have been very supportive and we are thankful to them for that. We are at that stage in the competition now where we really need our customers old and new to vote for us – fingers crossed this will be our year.”

Chip Week, now in its 24th year, is run by the Potato Council.

Funded by potato growers and potato trade buyers, the Potato Council supports the British potato industry and is a division of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board.

It aims to showcases the top quality chips available in chip shops today and promote British potatoes and chip shop chips as part of a balanced diet.

With over 247 million servings of fish and chips being sold in the UK each year at chip shops, the UK potato industry relies heavily on chip shops for business.

The “Best Chippy Chips” award will go to the chip shop who receives the most votes – so get voting.

One of Sole Kitchens regular customers, 93-year-old Graham Parrett, said: “I come here for fish and chips at least twice a week, the food here is excellent.”

“But if Mark and his team are going to win they need people to vote for them.”

Customers can vote at chips.lovepotatoes.co.uk or collect a voting card in store.
