A Tycroes teenager has been ordered to pay £210 after he admitted possessing the drug mephedrone – know as miaow miaow.

Jordan Michael Bourne, of 57 Ammanford Road, pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing 0.44 grammes of the Class B drug when he was searched by police in Ammanford on September 27.

Prosecutor Lisa Jones told District Judge David Parsons, sitting at Llanelli Court, how officers had spoken to the 19-year-old in the street.

“They decided to search him and found the drug on him,” she said.

She also said had appeared before magistrates eight days later to admit possession of cannabis and had been fined.

District Judge Parsons expressed his frustration at what he described as the “hopeless delay” in bringing the case to court and questioned why the charge of mephedrone possession had not been put to Bourne at the previous hearing.

“As this preceded your previous offence I am only going to fine you,” he told Bourne.

Bourne was fined £105 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a further £20 legal surcharge.
