DOG-LOVING volunteers from a Carmarthenshire wide dog rescue organisation are set to host a massive fundraiser event at Swansea’s Liberty stadium and are calling on people for support.

The event is scheduled to take place on the first Sunday in March and will include a dog show, stalls and demonstrations.

West Wales Poundies was set up to take in dogs from local authority-run pounds, where they are usually only able to stay for a maximum of seven days.

If there is a space available, the abandoned dogs can go to a rescue centre. However, if not, they will be put to sleep.

Amman Valley volunteers Lianne Evans, Sue Paton and Suzi Wales are dedicated to saving the lives of these dogs.

They work hard as a team to save as many of the dogs as possible by looking for foster homes and boarding kennels.

However, they are volunteers and rely on the help of donations to keep the organisation running.

An Amman Valley woman who heard about the trio, was so touched by their work she approached Suzi with an idea of organising a large event at the home of Swansea City Football Club.

Donna Purnell, of Garnant, said she didn’t have the time to foster a dog herself so this was her way to help the team.

“West Wales Poundies rescued a dog from Gwaun Cae Gurwen last year whose owner had sadly passed away,” said 30-year-old Donna.

“I was so touched by the work that they do that I felt I had to do something to raise awareness of such a fantastic group of people.”

The event is still in the organising stage, and £400 is needed to be raised to hire the stadium.

“If anyone can help with donations or would like to hire a stall at the event, we would love to hear from you,” said Donna.

“Dog grooming companies are welcome to come along on the day to give demonstrations.

“We will be glad to welcome anyone who wants to support this venture.”

Suzi said it was only through the generosity of the public that the organisation was able to keep going.

“In the last year, over 250 dogs came through us. With the help of the public, we were able to put them into foster homes with many adopting them full time.

“We at Poundies are excited to be a part of the brilliant opportunity Donna has arranged.

“It is fantastic that people think we are worthy cause to help.”
