An employed Llandeilo man who “turned his back on drugs” admitted hiding cannabis under his bed, Llanelli Magistrates Court has been told.

Joshua Stuart Payne, of 2B Bridge Street, pleaded guilty to possessing two grammes of the Class B drug, on November 9.

Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court that police attended the 25-year-old's home with a search warrant.

“After searching the property police discovered two grammes of cannabis under the defendant’s bed,” said Ms Morgan.

“Payne admitted the drugs were his and was arrested at the scene and taken to the police station.”

Defence solicitor Michael Reed explained to the court that Payne had been struggling with a drug problem and depression for many years but had turned his life around.

“Payne has been employed for the past two years and is progressing very well,” said Mr Reed.

“On this particular occasion the police warrant was for the address and not for Payne.

“However, Payne had moved into the property the day before because there had been a house fire at his previous address.”

District Judge David Parsons said: “You have a history of drug-taking and a string of offences.

“Because you are in employment I have decided to fine you.”

Mr Parsons fined Payne £365 ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £36 victim surcharge.
