THE Leader of Carmarthenshire County Council is set to take part in a candlelit walk to show his support for the White Ribbon campaign on Monday.

The event is due to be held in Carmarthen on Monday, November 24, starting at the Clock Tower at 5pm.

It will end on the steps of the Guildhall building and will followed by refreshments.

Councillor Madge has long been a supporter of the White Ribbon campaign, which pledges to end violence against women and girls.

The walk has been organised by AM Joyce Watson, Carmarthen Domestic Abuse Forum, Carmarthen Domestic Abuse Services, Victim Support and Hafan Cymru.

Cllr Madge said: “The White Ribbon campaign has my full support and I am glad to support it through taking part in the candlelit walk in Carmarthen.

“Violence against women is simply not acceptable and the more voices that join together in saying that, the more we will be heard.

“Events such as these helps raise awareness and gather support for the campaign, they also send the message that support is available for those who need it, which may encourage women suffering from abuse to find the strength to seek that help.

“If only one woman’s life can be changed for the better, or one person’s attitude can be changed, this campaign will have made a real difference.”
