UNEMPLOYMENT has fallen by more than 20,000 over the past year, despite being unchanged over the last quarter, official figures have revealed.
The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in Wales is also down by 1,100 over the past month – the 20th consecutive monthly fall in Wales - and by 16,000 over the year.
Youth unemployment is also falling – down by 6,100 over the last year. This is supported by The Youth Contract – a package providing 18-24 year olds with help and support to secure work experience placements and jobs. Since its launch in April 2012, there have been 9,390 work placements in Wales.
Secretary of State for Wales Stephen Crabb said: "Creating jobs is at the heart of our plan to build a stronger economy and I am pleased that more people in Wales are benefiting the peace of mind of a steady income.
"We have helped create 100,000 new private sector jobs since the election in 2010, but there is still more to do. That's why I want to use next week's Investment Summit to promote Wales to the world as an ideal place for global investment, leading to more jobs and more security for hardworking people and their families.'
