AMMANFORD is gearing up for another festival assault on the record books.

This year, Ammanford Chamber of Trade’s Wonders of Christmas Festival will feature a bid to yet again earn the town a place in the Guinness Book of Records – this time dressed as snowmen.

The record in question is the largest number of people dressed as snowmen, and following the town’s successful smashing of the elf record two years ago, when 762 elves gathered on Quay Street, the chamber is feeling confident.

Erica Beynon, of iSmooth Community Cafe, said: “The current record stands at 366 snowmen and we are very confident we can smash that, especially as we already have 264 people registered.

“We think it’s going to be another great moment for the town, when everyone dressed as snowmen gather at the piazza at the top of the arcade.

“We’d love to see about 500 people taking part and really hope that everyone will get on board and support this. It would be great to see Ammanford back in the Guinness Book of Records.”

If you want to be a snowman, it’s easy to get involved in the event, which will happen on November 29 from 3.30 to 4.30pm.

To qualify as a snowman, entrants must be dressed in a white top, white bottom, a hat, a scarf and have an orange nose and three buttons.

You can register now using the online form at Ammanford Wonders of Christmas Facebook page, or by popping into iSmooth Community Cafe.

Registration will also be open on the day from 3pm to 3.45pm at the piazza.

There is a host of fabulous festive activities happening during the three-day festival, which begins on November 27, with a Rotary Christmas carol service, and ends with a free firework display on November 29.

Events across the three days include Santa’s grotto, a tea dance, craft market, live entertainment and a grand charity ball.

Chamber of Trade secretary Angela Phillips adds: “The Wonders of Christmas festival is going to be a fabulous weekend and there is so much going on. We hope are hoping everyone gets involved and we make it bigger and better than ever.”
