AN unemployed Penygroes teenager has been warned he is on the road to "becoming a complete junkie" after he was caught in possession of cannabis.

Jordan Michael Bourne, of 58 Waterloo Road, pleaded guilty to possessing herbal cannabis on October 5 at Tirydail train station.

Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court how police officers saw the 19-year-old and some other young people gathered under a shelter by the railway.

“As the police approached the youths, they witnessed Bourne hiding something down his trousers,” said Ms Morgan.

“Police officers asked the defendant what it was he was trying to conceal, to which Bourne replied it was cannabis which he intended to smoke.”

Defence solicitor Laura Sherwood explained to the court that although Bourne has never been employed he was actively seeking work.

After fining Bourne £75 and ordering him to pay £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge, District Judge David Parsons, sitting at Llanelli magistrates court, warned him: “So many young people come to court charged with cannabis possession, it seems to be very fashionable amongst young people.

“The problem is cannabis damages the brain and will destroy your motivation.

“If you continue to smoke cannabis you will get nowhere in the future and things will get worse for you.

"So many young people in your position end up becoming complete junkies.”
