STAFF at Ammanford Specsavers have raised more than £100 for charity Guide Dogs with a series of fundraising events, culminating in a neon-themed fundraising day in store.

The Quay Street store raised a total of £104.39 to mark Guide Dogs Week, the annual fundraising and awareness week held by the charity.

Staff collected donations in Guide Dogs collection buckets throughout the week, and on the final day dressed up in brightly-coloured clothing and decorated the store with colourful bunting. They also held a cake sale of home-made treats, with staff members competing in a 'Crazy Cupcake Challenge' for the most individual, innovative bake. The winning cupcakes were made by optician Lisa Picton, who won for her rainbow-swirled cupcakes.

Kevin McCarthy, director of Specsavers in Ammanford, said: "We are delighted to have raised this money to support such a brilliant charity. On behalf of everyone in the store we’d like to thank everyone who donated to our fundraising efforts for their generosity.

"Specsavers has lots of experience in helping customers with visual impairments, and raising awareness of the importance of regular sight tests to pick up any changes to your eye health. The advice, support and, of course, the four-legged friends that the Guide Dogs charity provides to blind and partially-sighted visuals is truly life-changing and we’re very proud to help them in any way we can."

The Guide Dogs charity has been breeding and training guide dogs for more than 75 years, providing thousands of dogs to blind and partially-sighted people of all ages and from all walks of life.

The money raised during Guide Dogs Week will help the charity continue to provide mobility and freedom to blind and partially sighted people, as well as fund eye disease research, educate the public about eye care and campaign for the rights of people with visual impairment.
