AN AMMANFORD schoolgirl will be donning her apron and baking up batches of cakes to sell this weekend for charity.

Eight-year-old Diaz Tinnuche cooked up the idea after watching Channel 4’s Stand up to Cancer at her aunt’s house.

Ysgol Parcyrhun pupil Diaz was so touched by the programme she asked her mum, local artist Cara Gibson, if she could sell cakes to raise money for cancer.

“Diaz loves baking and her favourite programme is Choccywoccydoodah – the television programme featuring the Brighton based chocolate shop – so it came as no surprise when she asked to bake cakes for charity,” said Cara.

“I am incredibly proud of Diaz, she is such a thoughtful child, always doing something nice for others.

“The programme was very hard hitting, I would have struggled to watch it. She has a good head on her shoulders.”

Diaz, who enjoys baking with her mum told the Guardian her friends were very supportive when she told them her fundraising idea.

“I really like baking, my favourite is lemon cake,” said Diaz.

“My friends said it is a very kind thing I am doing.

“When I told my teacher what I had planned, she got the rest of the class to think of what they would do to raise money for cancer.”

Young fundraiser Diaz will be selling her cakes in her aunt’s hair salon Nucci’s on Gorslas square from 9am this Saturday, November 8.
