THE owner of Llandovery’s Castle Hotel has spoken out following an article in last week’s paper that got locals worrying the sale of the hotel would lead to its closure.

“This is not the case,” said Glyn Bridgeman.

“I’ve received phone calls from members of the public who thought the headline (Time called as historic hotel put up for sale) was misleading and we were closing.

"It is not set for closure. I am selling the Hotel but as a going concern, he said.”

The recently refurbished, Grade II listed hotel lays claim to a rich history having begun life as a coaching house serving the town’s drovers.

Originally named the New Bear, it was rechristened the Castle Hotel in 1800 due to its proximity to the ruined Norman castle.

The Castle has been put on the market by owners Taste Inn Wales with pub-sale specialists Colliers International.

The hotel saw a turnover of £650,000 last year, and is also home to the town museum.

Peter Brunt from pub-sale specialists Colliers International said, “The Castle is a well-presented hotel with a prominent position in the town centre and offers a persuasive balance between the rustic charm of its 17 century roots with contemporary styling.

“Our clients own a group of hospitality businesses centred around Crickhowell and Brecon, and have found that this is beyond a comfortable distance for their management operation.

“As such, they have decided to sell the Castle so they can concentrate on the hub properties.

“This gives new owners the chance to get their hands on a thriving business in an excellent, all-year round location.”
