PLANS to convert part of an Ammanford café into living accommodation are being considered by Carmarthenshire County Council.

Applicant John Jennings of Café Celia, on College Street, is seeking permission for change of use of a building to convert the upper floors into a flat and the carry out some minor internal modifications to the ground floor cafe area.

The grade II listed building currently houses the café area on the ground and first floors and the plans will reinstate the previous use of the building to ground floor shop with above living areas.

In a report to the Council’s planning team, Agents Brown Partnership of Llangadog state: ‘the proposed alterations will not affect the external appearance of the property and the proposed change of use will ensure the continued success of the business and longevity of this beautiful building.’

They add that the scheme will ‘reinstate the building to its former use, i.e. shop on the ground floor and self-contained living accommodation on the upper floors.’

The plans would also see an opening fanlight being constructed above the front door, ensuring adequate ventilation for the café area.
