AMMANFORD Talking News - the audio newspaper for the blind – is looking for volunteer readers.

The council funded organisation is run by Garnant couple, John and Pauline Barker, who have been responsible for getting the monthly editions out for the last ten years.

The couple are now calling on the people of the Amman Valley to volunteer a little of their spare time to read from the South Wales Guardian.

“We record once a month at Ammanford library, however we are low on people who are able to give up some of their time, especially men and Welsh speakers,” said John, who produces the CD in a small room in his home.

Ammanford Talking News is available for those who are blind, or who are no longer able to read a paper for one reason or another.

“It is a very popular service, people say it is the highlight of their month when the CD arrives in the post,” said Pauline.

If you are able to volunteer, or want to know more about Ammanford Talking News ring John and Pauline Barker on 01269 824259 or email ammanfordtn@gmail.com.
