AMMANFORD violent attack victim Paul Pugh is set to benefit from a fitness group’s charity challenge.

Funky Pump Fitness are preparing to take on a gruelling outdoor fitness challenge this November in support of Paul, who, after sustaining a brutal attack in 2007 has been left with the rare condition pathological laughter syndrome.

The unprovoked attack by four men resulted in Paul being unable to speak and spend over a year in hospital.

After a gruelling recovery he is now living with the debilitating condition which causes him to laugh uncontrollably – mostly at inappropriate times.

The Guerrilla fitness challenge is run by the Funky Pump Fitness brand - running in Swansea for the past two years and came to the Amman Valley this summer with over 40 fitness fanatics taking part and raising money for Amman Valley Women’s Aid charity – and this autumn they are set to do it all over again for Paul Pugh.

Kicking off at the Primal Strength and Fitness gym on Sunday, November 9 the group is expecting high numbers to take part.

The organisers reinforce the fact it is a challenge and not a race – it’s about testing yourself rather than competing against others as well as being open to anyone who wants to take part.

Funky Pump Ammanford Manager Hayley Phillips Harris said of the challenge: “I’m so pleased the Guerrilla Fitness Challenge is returning to Ammanford.

“After the success of the summer challenge and following our merger with the Primal gym we know this one is going to be even better – the cold weather won’t put anyone off- all our members are ready and raring to go.

“I’m so pleased we are able to do this for another local charity and Paul Pugh is a well-known figure in the area with an incredible story so to be able to support him is an honour – I know the charity aspect will push all the entrants just that little bit harder!”
