CRIME for the past year in Glanaman has fallen by 77 per cent to date, recent figures have revealed.

PC Steve Morris announced the news at a recent Cwmaman town council meeting, where he told councillors this time last year four burglaries had taken place in the area compared to one this year.

Garnant crime was down by 43 per cent for the year.

“The figures speak for themselves,” said PC Morris.

Carmarthenshire county council leader Kevin Madge praised the work of the police, adding that he had praised the work of the Ammanford Neighbourhood Policing Team during a meeting with Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, Christopher Salmon.

“We are incredibly lucky to have PC Steve Morris and the team, who are putting a large amount of hard work into keeping the crime levels down in the valley,” said Cllr Madge.

“I explained to Commissioner Salmon how important it is for the community to have them based in the area, following recent rumours that the office in Ysgol y Bedol was under threat of closure.”

These rumours were later quashed by Commissioner Salmon.

PC Morris underlined the importance of the Ysgol y Bedol station, stating: “Over 360 children attend Ysgol y Bedol, all of whom recognise us, as do their parents.

“It is fantastic for both the police and the community, because it makes us more approachable."

Councillor David Jenkins added his thanks to PC Morris and the team for their work in the Glanaman ward.
