A teenage Ammanford volunteer was rubbing shoulders with the most powerful men and women on the planet last week.

Nathan Jones, of Margaret Street, attended the reception hosted by Prince Charles during the NATO summit at the Celtic Manor, Newport on Thursday September 4.

The Reception was called “Welcome the World to Wales” and celebrated the work of all of Welsh Society.

Nathan, aged 18, was invited as a result of being a finalist in the St David’s Awards in Cardiff in March this year.

He was shortlisted for the awards in recognition of his volunteering work with Carmarthen Harriers Athletics Club, Amman Valley Harriers and the Special Olympics Athletics Team.

During the reception, Nathan had the opportunity to share his experiences with Prince Charles and David Cameron.

Nathan said he felt honoured to be in the company of many world leaders and would remember the evening for many years to come.
