Police have confirmed a body has been pulled from a Swansea Valley canal.

Police and ambulance crews have been at Herbert Street, Pontardawe, throughout the morning, following the discovery of a body in the water.

Crews were called to the area at 8.50am.

The body of a man has now been retrieved from the water.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said the death is being treated as unexplained, but added: "There are no suspicious circumstances at this stage, an investigation is currently underway."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 8.51 this morning to an incident at the canal in Pontardawe.

"An emergency ambulance has attended and is currently at the scene.
