A BID to house 32,000 free-range hens on land near Llandeilo’s Cottage Inn has been submitted to county planners.
The application, by Mr Terry Davies, would see a tiered shed 30m by 80m and 7.5m tall built in a field at Glanmyddyfi, Pentrefelin.
The development, beside the A40 and 150 metres from the nearest dwelling, would provide full-time work for the applicant’s son and one part-time employee.
Planning agent Jason Evans said manure would be collected through a rotating belt system and removed from the site once a week.
He added that the application followed the success of Mr Davies’ current free-range poultry enterprise at Llanfynydd.
Mr Evans concluded: “The means and regularity of manure management will provide significant assurance that the proposal will not result in any form of disturbance or nuisance as a result of odours.”
