Three Ammanford friends are about to embark on a challenge of a lifetime and climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for RYAN4LEUKAEMIA.

Paul Griffiths, Jason Evans, and Nick Salini, fly to Africa on September 4 before climbing the largest free-standing mountain in the world.

Inspired by their pal Ryan Davies, an Acute Myeloid Leukaemia Ph+ patient, the intrepid trio will follow in the footsteps of celebrities, such as Chris Moyles, Gary Barlow, and Cheryl Cole. as the tackle the Lemosho route up the mountain.

Paul, Jason and Nick hope to raise £2,000 to Ryan's fund, which has already brought in more than £25,000.

Paul said: “We know it is a huge challenge, but that’s why we chose to do it, we wanted to really push ourselves.

“We are three determined characters, but the most important thing is to raise as much money as we can for Ryan’s charity.”

The charity aims to help hospitals and patients during treatment, as well as improving the facilities and upgrading essential medical equipment.

So far, The University Hospital of Wales (UHW) and Prince Philip Hospital(PPH) have benefited from money raised by R4L.

The Chemotherapy Day Units at both hospitals received televisions in every patient cubicle on both Transplant Wards which are enjoyed by patients suffering from cancer and other illnesses.

Ryan said: “I feel honoured and overwhelmed that people will go to these huge lengths just to support me and R4L.

“Climbing Kilimanjaro is a life-changing experience and it's a challenge only certain individuals can do.

“The fact that my friends are putting themselves through this to benefit others is amazing and it shows how physically and mentally tough they are.

“It's impossible to show my true appreciation because the right words just don't exist.

"I can only thank them from the bottom of my heart.”

But the fundraising does not stop there, the guest list has been confirmed, venue is set, and the tickets are on sale.

For one night only R4L presents Ragsy - the former contestant of the hit BBC show The Voice.

The event will be held at the Betws RFC, on Saturday, August 30, from 7.30pm.
