A Towy Valley woman who assaulted four police officers after an afternoon drinking binge has been spared a prison sentence at Llanelli court.

Louise Thomas, aged 32, who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, apologised for her behaviour and claimed she could not remember any part of the incident, which took place on May 7.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard Jones, told the court that police had been called to an address in Kidwelly at 4pm by the householder because the intoxicated Thomas had refused to leave.

The police initially escorted Thomas outside, but as she walked away she directed a torrent of abuse at the officers.

Due to members of the public being present she was arrested for her behaviour.

“However, when police attempted to arrest Thomas she fell to the ground and then subsequently kicked PC Webb in the shin," said Mr Pritchard Jones.

“Still resisting arrest, and continuing to insult police officers with abusive language, Thomas then spat at female officer PC Evans."

Thomas was then taken to the police station where she bit PC Beynon on the hand, breaking the skin. She then spat at PC Hopkins.

After considering a doctor’s report into Thomas' mental health, District Judge David Parsons sentenced her to a 12-month community order with a 12-month supervision requirement.

She was also ordered to take part in a alcohol activity awareness course.

In addition she was ordered to pay £50 compensation to each officer, a £60 legal surcharge and £85 costs.

Mr Parsons said: “Your behaviour towards the police was disgusting.

“I have taken into account that you pleaded guilty and I have also taken into account your mental health issues.

"If it was not for your doctor’s report I would be sending you to prison today.”
