A round-up of some of the cases appearing before Llanelli magistrates in the past few weeks.

AN AMMANFORD man has been given a six-month conditional discharge after he admitted possession of drugs.

Matthew Alun Trotman, aged 23, of 4 Lauderdale Road, Tairgwaith, admitted to possessing 0 .66 grams of the drug mephedrone, also known as meow-meow, at Ammanford on April 27. He also admitted to failing to surrender to custody while on bail.

Llanelli magistrates also ordered him to pay costs of £40 and a victim surcharge of £15. Another charge of failing to surrender to custody was withdrawn,

CARMARTHEN Magistrates have found a Gwendraeth Valley man guilty of assault and ordered him to pay £50 compensation to his victim.

Nigel James, aged 59, of 12 Heol y Bryn, Tumble, denied he assaulted Gareth Morgan, in Tumble in March.

James also received a 12-month conditional discharge and must pay £500 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

AN AMMANFORD woman has been fined £55 for assaulting a man in the town in May.

Zoe Claire Bevan, aged 18, of 36, Walters Road, admitted she assaulted by beating Wayne Williams and Llanelli magistrates also imposed costs of £120 and a £20 victim surcharge.

LLANELLI magistrates imposed a 12-month conditional discharge on a Brynaman man for threatening behaviour.

David James Wolfe, aged 38, of 32 Llandeilo Road, admitted he had used threatening or abusive words or behaviour in the village on July 19. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

THE CASE of a Towy Valley man who denies two counts of assault and one of threatening behaviour has been adjourned until October 17.

Matthew James Abson, of 30 Stone Street, Llandovery, is alleged to have assaulted by beating both Tasha Jayne Murray and Jemma Marie Southam in Llandeilo on August 8 as well as using threatening words or behaviour towards Christopher Thomas O Conner, Jemma Southam and Tasha Murray on the same day.

Thirty-four –year-old Abson was remanded on bail by Llanelli Magistrates with instructions not contact prosecution witnesses and not to enter Llandeilo or to enter any licenced premises until the hearing.

A TOWY VALLEY man has appeared at Llanelli Magistrates Court charged with assault.

Michael Byard, aged 30, of 32 Rhyd Y Fro, Llangadog, admitted assaulting Rachel Jane Jones by beating her at Carmarthen on August 9.

Magistrates issued a conditional discharge for two years and ordered costs of £85 and a £15 victim surcharge to be paid.

A PONTARDAWE woman who broke the speed limit on a Glanaman road has been fined £150 by Llanelli magistrates.

Sarah Jones, aged 35, of 33 Dyffryn Road, Alltwen, admitted she had driven five mile above the 30 miles per hour limit on the A474 at Glanaman in December last year.

Jones was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge. A second charge of failing to notify the police of the identity of a driver was withdrawn.

A TOWY VALLEY man who caused a crash by not paying due care and attention while driving has been fined £75 and his licence e endorsed with five penalty points by Llanelli magistrates.

Richard Kenny, aged 44, of Room 10, 87 Rhosmaen Street, Llandeilo, admitted that on October 10 last year he had been driving towards Llandybie on Ammanford Road and had failed to notice that traffic ahead had stopped.

Kenny then took evasive action to avoid a collision but by crossing, the carriage way had crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

He must also pay £150 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
