One of the main organisers of Ammanford’s Big Day Out has declared the event a rip-roaring success.

Ammanford Rotary Club, having now had the chance to assess the year’s event, say that in spite of the weather, the day was possibly one of the best ever.

The family fun-day marks the start of the club’s fundraising calendar and new president Rob Thomas has been overjoyed with the response from the public, both on the day itself and over the past week.

“The numbers attending exceeded last year,” said Rob, “and I have been delighted with the feedback we have had.

“In particular, the sporting taster sessions proved a massive hit with the youngsters and I‘ve been really pleased with the number of people that have thanked us for giving their children the chance to try things they might never have otherwise experienced.

“In terms of people involvement, the Big Day Out is getting bigger and better. It was great to have so many locally based groups taking part in the organisation of the day, we had help from all quarters and that is what the Big Day Out is all about – it is a community event for everyone. Our thanks go out to all those who had a part to play.

“Aled Parry, of Actif Amman, in particular deserves great praise for organising the variety of sporting sessions and events that were an integral part of the day.”

“The club hosts a variety of charity events throughout the year, ranging from the annual Swimarathon in February, a charity film night, a fashion show, the Christmas carol concert, a horse-racing event, a gentlemen’s health evening and many more, but the Big Day Out is key.

"It is an extremely important occasion for us and is undoubtedly our biggest fundraiser of the year.”

The Rotary Club raises funds to support deserving causes home and abroad.

“It is vital that we support local causes as well as those further afield, and every year we ensure that the majority of the funds we raise are fed back into locally based organisations.”

The Rotary Club continues to welcome new members and is keen to encourage individuals to join.

“We are an active charity organisation and as such we are always looking for new people who have a commitment to the community,” said Rob.

“We would gladly welcome people with the energy to organise events and want to encourage people to get involved and have fun while at the same time supporting charities and good causes.”
